Avery is a first year master's student and concurrent undergraduate senior studying Mechanical Engineering. He came to Columbia as an undergraduate in the fall of 2022 as part of a dual degree engineering program with the College of Idaho. His education features a BA in Mathematics and Physics from the College of Idaho, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University. His research focuses on ammonium perchlorate combustion modeling, seeking to improve existing simulation techniques. He has previous research in Molecular Dynamics at the Idaho National Laboratory as well as in Satellite Structural Systems with the Air Force Research Lab. He also has interests in rocketry, propulsion systems, and satellite deployable structures, and has participated with Columbia's ASME Chapter and the Columbia Space Initiative.
