Joining the Group
As someone who is not willing to give up when the solution to a problem crosses a conventional boundary between disciplines, Prof. Burke has worked in both Mechanical Engineering departments and Chemical Sciences and Engineering divisions and currently holds appointments/affiliations with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Institute for Data Sciences and Engineering. The work of our group has both experimental and computational components and is inherently interdisciplinary – applying ideas from multi-scale modeling, informatics, uncertainty quantification, and automation to investigate the complex reaction networks and reacting flows relevant to advanced energy conversion systems.
Not surprisingly, we welcome students (and postdocs) of various backgrounds interested in joining the group to perform research and/or pursue graduate study in either Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering. If you are interested in joining the group, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "Joining the Burke Group" indicating the projects you are interested in, describing aspects of your background that would help you contribute to these projects, and attaching your curriculum vitae. Note that to pursue graduate study you must apply to the graduate program.
